Denmark Senior High School student Grayson Green was this years recipient of the Denmark Chamber of Commerce award for Entrepreneurship. Denmark Chamber CEO Sumer Addy presented Grayson with a cheque for $500 at the Year 12 graduation ceremony.

Grayson has demonstrated a resourcefulness, initiative and enthusiasm in her endeavors this last year. Following a talk by a visiting midwife to her Year 10 class Grayson became aware that a career in Nursing was something she would like to pursue. Through the high school program she was able to complete a Cert 1V in Nursing at South Regional Tafe in Albany.

Earlier this year Grayson took things one step further in order to give herself more experience and applied for a job with Clarence Estate – Aged Care. She worked on her weekends and evenings. This work involved learning about the individual needs that each of the elderly residents has. Grayson developed her skills by buddying up with a senior member of staff and learnt how to look for any potential issues, how to maximise the comfort of the residents and learnt how to provide daily assistance with showering and dressing and other needs. Grayson says she has found this work satisfying and rewarding.

Grayson has applied for the very competitive Diploma of Nursing at South Regional Tafe which she is hoping to start next year. Eventually she would like to experience working in a hospital and maybe train to be a midwife one day. Grayson’s enthusiastic and spirited attitude will serve both her and future patients well.
